京都大学YMCA「地塩寮」は、京都大学内にある寮で、YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) の運営する寮として、大正2年（1913年）に開設されました。地塩寮の名前は、「あなた方は世の塩である。」（マタイの福音書5章13節）に由来しています。

地塩寮は、日本のYMCAがアメリカのYMCAからの支援を受けて建設したもので、アメリカ人建築家のウィリアム・メレル・ヴォーリズが設計を担当しました。地塩寮は、ヴォーリズの代表作の一つとして知られ、西洋と日本の文化を融合した独自の建築様式が特徴的です。寮の建物は、和風の曲線的な屋根と欧風のアーチを組み合わせたもので、内部には畳敷きの和室と洋室が配置されています。現在、地塩寮は京都大学の寮として利用されていますが、建物の歴史的価値が認められ、1999年に国の有形文化財に指定されています。

今日、様々な文化、言語、国籍を背景に持つ私たちKICが、このような歴史と文化的価値を豊かに持つ建物で、礼拝を捧げることが出来ることに、深い感動を覚えずにはおれません。日本宣教のために、多くの祈りと汗と涙を残してくれた、国内外の先人たちの心と共に、これからもキリストにお仕えしていきたいと思っています。

KIC currently uses CHIENRYO as its main venue for in-person worship services. There is very limited parking space, so please use the coin-operated parking lots in the neighborhood.

The Kyoto University YMCA "Chienryo" is located on the campus of Kyoto University and was established in 1913 as a dormitory run by the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association). The name "Chienryo" is derived from the scripture, "You are the salt of the world." (Matthew 5:13).

The Chienryo was built by the YMCA of Japan with support from the YMCA of America and designed by American architect William Merrell Vories. Chienryo is known as one of Vories' masterpieces and is characterized by its unique architectural style that blends Western and Japanese cultures. The dormitory building combines a Japanese-style curved roof with European-style arches, and the interior is furnished with Japanese-style tatami mat rooms and Western-style rooms. Although the Chienryo is currently used as a dormitory of Kyoto University, the building was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1999 in recognition of its historical value.

We desire to continue worshipping and serving Jesus Christ with the hearts of those predecessors who have left behind many prayers, sweat, and tears for the missionary work in Japan.
